'She said I have been...': Gadar 2 director reveals Priyanka Chopra nearly quit films, moved back to Bareilly after..

Priyanka Chopra is not only a superstar in India but is also well-established in Hollywood. But, this superstardom did not come easy for the actress. There was a time when filmmakers were not so keen to cast Priyanka Chopra in their films, thanks to a botched nose job incident. Anil Sharma, the director of Gadar 2, recently discussed Priyanka Chopra's career trajectory and how she has worked hard to achieve the position that she is in. Anil Sharma also spoke about the time when Priyanka Chopra almost quit acting and had thought about leaving the film industry. 

Anil Sharma worked with Priyanka Chopra in the film The Hero: The Love Story of a Spy. In a recent interview with Siddharth Kannan for his podcast, Anil Sharma compared Priyanka Chopra's passion for her mission to succeed to that of Mahabharat's Arjun. "Na vo left jaati hai na right. Arjun ki tarha nazar sirf machli ki aankh par hai aur kahin nahi hai. (She neither goes left nor right. Just like Arjun, her eye is on the prize and nowhere else)," he said. 

Anil Sharma also shared that Priyanka Chopra and her family faced many challenging moments when filmmakers were not in favour of casting her for their films. Anil Sharma claimed the reason behind it to be the directors’ disappointment with her nose-altering operation. Many are not aware that Priyanka Chopra underwent a nose job but it did not turn out as expected after which she took a long time to recover. 

Anil Sharma said, "Toh usme us bichari ka koi dosh nhi tha (In all this, there was no fault of her). At that time, I had already given her a token of Rs 5 lakh (for The Hero: The Love Story of a Spy). She came with the cheque. She said I have been fired and now I am moving back to Bareilly. They said they were waiting to give my money back. I said you keep the money and I scolded her a bit. She then told me what actually happened with her nose."

Anil Sharma said that he was the one who stopped Priyanka Chopra from leaving the film industry. "She said my father is already back in Bareilly and has rejoined his duty in the army. Her mother said she will also resume her practice. They thought it would take some time for Priyanka to heal, so they would come back after a year or so. They were paying so much rent here, and they were regular people, not like Ambanis. I told them to stop," he said. 

Priyanka Chopra decided to stay on Anil Sharma's insistence and eventually made her Hindi film debut with The Hero: The Love Story of a Spy, which also starred Sunny Deol and Preity Zinta in the lead roles.
