Shaan reveals how he managed to escape with his family after fire broke out in his building: 'We were asleep when...'

A fire broke out in the early hours on Tuesday in Fortune Enclave building in Mumbai's Bandra, where playback singer Shaan lives. The singer and his family are safe now. In an interview, Shaan has shared how he managed to escape with his family during the horrifying and tensed situation.

Speaking to Hindustan Times, Shaan said, "The fire broke out on the seventh floor around 12.30am. We were asleep and were woken up around 1am. Most of the people in the building, seventh floor and below, had gone down. We were told to go to the terrace, but since the terrace was locked and the smoke was mounting, we took refuge at our neighbour, Mrs Kazi’s home, on the 14th floor. Unfortunately, they were stuck too. We were there for about 40 minutes, until the fireman came up and they took us down."

When asked if the fire has damaged their home, Shaan replied, "The seventh floor is completely gutted with fire. The sixth and eighth floors are partially burnt, but there hasn’t been much damage to the building. Our home is fine." The fire was put down after two and a half hours.

Shaan's wife Radhika Mukherjee also took to her Instagram Stories and shared a note sharing that they all are fine after the terrible incident. The note read, "Dear all, as the news spreads about the fire in our building. Just to let you all know that we are safe. Fire was on the 7th floor, we live on higher floors. We managed to escape to the 15th floor and waited to be rescued. To cut a long horrible story short, we are absolutely fine and waiting to go back home once there is a clearer picture from the fire department. A big thank you to the fire department, the Mumbai police and @advocateashishshelar for their quick and timely action." Shaan reshared the story on his Instagram handle as well.

While no fatalities are reported in the incident, an 80-year-old woman living in the same building is being treated at the nearby Bhabha Hospital after sher suffered breathing difficulties due to the fire.
