With over 300 films to his name, this actor worked alongside Bollywood legends like Dev Anand, Dilip Kumar, and Shahrukh Khan.
We often hear that everything is temporary, and change is the only constant. Today, we’ll discuss an actor once hailed as the "Amitabh Bachchan of Punjabi Cinema," who worked in both the Punjabi and Hindi film industries but later faced severe financial hardships and ended up living in an old age home.
We are talking about Satish Kaul, born on 8th September 1946 and passed away on 10th April 2021. With over 300 films to his name, he worked alongside Bollywood legends like Dev Anand, Dilip Kumar, and Shahrukh Khan. Some of his memorable roles include films like Sassi Punnu, Ishq Nimana, Prem Parbat, Suhag Chooda, and Patola.
He became widely known for portraying Lord Indra in the epic TV series Mahabharat. Nicknamed the "Amitabh Bachchan of Punjabi cinema," Kaul was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the PTC Punjabi Film Awards in 2011 for his significant contributions to Punjabi cinema.
However, his later years were marked by financial struggles. In 2020, Kaul reached out for help as the nationwide lockdown severely affected him. "I'm struggling for medicines, groceries, and basic needs. I appeal to the industry people to help me. I got so much love as an actor, I need some attention now as a human in need," he said.
His situation worsened when he fell in 2015, fracturing his hip and requiring two years of bed rest, which further drained his finances. Eventually, he had to live in an old age home in Ludhiana due to lack of financial support. He was later diagnosed with COVID-19 and admitted to a hospital in Ludhiana, where he passed away. His sister, Satya Devi, confirmed his passing, noting that he had been struggling with both health and financial issues in his final years.
