Ramesh Taurani further said how after his and Salman Khan's conversation, the news got leaked to the press. It was at this time that Chandrachur Singh decided to not back out of a Tips production. Salman Khan then asked the producer to finish the film with Chandrachur Singh.
Preity Zinta was a superstar in the 90s and 2000s and one of the most significant films in her career was Kya Kehna (2000) which established her as a leading actress. Now, revealing an interesting anecdote before the film's release, Ramesh Taurani has said how distributors were not interested in buying the film as it did not have any star value attached to it. Saif Ali Khan and Chandrachur Singh were relatively small stars at the time. Ramesh Taurani revealed how to ensure the success of the film, he asked Chandrachur Singh to leave the movie so he could cast Salman Khan instead. However, despite Salman Khan agreeing to star in the film, Chandrachur Singh was adamant about not leaving the project.
In an interview with Radio Nasha, Ramesh Taurani said that Kya Kehna initially had Chandrachur Singh and Mukul Dev in the lead role but since the latter did not show up for the shoot, Saif Ali Khan was cast at the last minute. With so many hurdles, Ramesh Taurani thought it best to ask Chandrachur Singh to leave the film so they could cast Salman instead. “I spoke to Chandrachur and I told him that we can’t sell the film. We asked him to drop out of this film so we could sell it. We were in a dire situation and we had never done something like this,” he said.
Chandrachur Singh initially agreed with the arrangement and Salman Khan was already ready to come on board. "He said I don’t even want to listen to the plot. I will do it just because you have asked me to. But you have to get a letter of consent from Chandrachur. I don’t want to take something that belongs to someone else, something that’s cursed," he said.
Ramesh Taurani further said how after his and Salman Khan's conversation, the news got leaked to the press. It was at this time that Chandrachur Singh decided to not back out of a Tips production. Salman Khan then asked the producer to finish the film with Chandrachur Singh in the lead role and the rest is history.
Made on a budget of only Rs 4 crore, Kya Kehna went on to earn Rs 20.5 crore at the box office.
