Emergency box office collection day 6: Kangana Ranaut film fails to beat Alia Bhatt's Jigra, earns just Rs...

Headlined by Kangana Ranaut, the political drama Emergency was released in the cinemas on January 17. The multiple National Award-winning actress portrays the former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Anupam Kher, Milind Soman, Shreyas Talpade, Vishak Nair, Satish Kaushik, and Mahima Choudhry are also seen playing key historical figures in the film.

In its first five days, Emergency collected Rs 12.40 crore net in India and grossed Rs 16 crore worldwide. On its sixth day, as per the early estimates from the entertainment tracking portal Sacnilk, the film failed to earn even Rs 1 crore and just collected Rs 85 lakhs. This takes Emergency's six-day domestic net collection to Rs 13.25 crore.

Alia Bhatt-starrer Jigra collected Rs 21.20 crore net in India in its first six days when it was released in the cinemas on October 10 last year. The prison drama collected Rs 32 crore net in India and Rs 57 crore gross worldwide in its entire theatrical run. It seems that Emergency won't be able to beat Jigra with Akshay Kumar's Sky Force releasing in cinemas this Friday.

Emergency delves into the Emergency that was imposed by the former PM Indira Gandhi for 21 months from 1975 to 1977 and its aftermath. Emergency was initially slated to release on September 6 but was postponed as the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) delayed its ceritification.
 
The Kangana Ranaut-starrer marks her solo directorial debut after she shared directing credits with Krish Jagarlamudi for the 2019 biographical historical action drama Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi, in which the National Award-winning actress portayed the Rani Lakshmi Bai of Jhansi.
