Chhaava trailer: Vicky Kaushal's Sambhaji fights with lion, challenges Akshaye Khanna's Aurangzeb in 'biggest spectacle'

The makers of Chhaava released the trailer of the much-awaited film on Wednesday, January 22. The period historical drama has Vicky Kaushal portraying Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, the son of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, and Akshaye Khanna as Mughal king Aurangzeb. Rashmika Mandanna plays Sambhaji's wife Maharani Yesubai.

Sharing the trailer on its social media handles, the production house Maddock Films wrote, "Dinesh Vijan and Maddock Films present the trailer of Hindi Cinema's biggest spectacle ever - Chhaava. Yeh Sher Shiva ka Chhaava shor nahin karta, seedha shikaar karta hai." Chhaava means a lion cub.

The trailer showcases Vicky's fierce avatar as the Maratha warrior who fought against the Mughal king Aurangzeb. After the death of Shivaji, Mughals wanted to expand their empire into the Deccan and Sambhaji was the one standing between them and their plans. The trailer ends with Vicky Kaushal fighting with a lion.

Also starring  Ashutosh Rana, Divya Dutta, Vineet Kumar Singh, Diana Penty and Santosh Juvekar in the supporting roles, Chhaava is directed by Laxman Utekar. Laxman previously collaborated with Vicky in the 2023 romantic comedy Zara Hatke Zara Bachke, which starred Sara Ali Khan as the leading lady.

Reacting to the trailer, the audiences have already dubbed it the next blockbuster. One netizen wrote, "Best Actor of the Year award, National Award, and Rs 1000 crore loading", while another added, "The story of the bravest king everyone should know and what an epic trailer. This will be a sureshot blockbuster and Vicky Kaushal looks incredible."

AR Rahman has composed the music and background score for the film with the lyrics penned by Irshad Kamil. Initially slated to hit theatres on December 6 last year, Chhaava releases in cinemas on February 14. The release date has been specifically chosen as it coincides with Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti on February 19.
