Rajkumar Hirani's iconic film 3 Idiots (2009) stars Aamir Khan, R Madhavan, Sharman Joshi, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Boman Irani, Omi Vaidya, and Mona Singh. Set in an Indian engineering college, the movie masterfully explores the friendship of three students while delivering a biting satire on the societal pressures and expectations inherent in the Indian education system.
As the movie turned 15 today, Madhavan re-shared a fan’s heartfelt post describing how his character impacted his life. For the unversed, Madhavan played the role of Farhan Qureshi, a student with a passion for photography, who studies engineering to appease his father. However, with the help of his friend Rancho, played by Aamir Khan, he musters the courage to pursue photography as a full-time career by confronting his father.
In the post, the fan also hailed Madhavan’s ‘abba nahi manenge’ scene where he actually confronts his father and says he doesn’t want to study engineering any longer. “Maddy sir delivers an excellent and stellar performance as Farhan, a performance that cannot be forgotten. The character of Farhan is the representation of many people around the world, including me. Farhan is a mirror, representing the hopes and dreams of millions of people.,” read the post.
The post further read, “Abba nahi manenge is a scene that is exquisite and so, so beautiful. This is a sequence that has been replayed in the lives of many individuals, and it is the bravery of Farhan at this point that has inspired me and so many people to have courage and to make what we love our profession and core study, to study what we love.” The fan concluded by expressing gratitude to Madhavan for playing this character and ‘changing lives’.
Produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra, "3 Idiots" is widely regarded as one of the greatest Indian films of all time. The movie garnered widespread critical acclaim, both domestically and internationally. Made on a modest budget of Rs 35-40 crore, it went on to achieve phenomenal commercial success, grossing Rs 460 crore in its lifetime and becoming the highest-grossing Indian film at the time.
